Horse Riding School Events

A description of some of the events scheduled at Chelmsford Equestrian Centre covering 2017 are below.

We may periodically add to our event schedule, so come back regularly to check what's going on and to keep up to date. Our event programme offers a range of activities for children and adults. For specific dates please visit the Schedule of Events page on this website.

Tiny Tots Own a Pony. Ideal event for children riding in our Tiny Tot lessons. Children will spnd 30 minutes "on the ground" grooming their pony, followed by a 30 minute ride. Minimum age requirement is 4 years old.

 Mini Own-A-Pony is an ideal event for children riding in our lead-rein lessons.  Minimum age requirement is 5 years old. Children will receive 45 minutes "on the ground" training with their pony learning how to groom and a 45 minute riding lesson.

Own-A-PonyThis event is suited to children riding at pre-novice level (J1) and above. The day will consist of a lesson in stable management; learning to groom and tacking up, a riding lesson and will finish with a fun activity. Please bring lunch and snacks to keep you going throughout the day.

2 and 3 Day Pony Riding Improver Courses.  Suitable for riders at LR2, J1 and J2 levels. A great opportunity to improve your riding skills to help you move up to the next level of lesson.  All riding will take place in our big indoor arena. As well a fun and games you'll learn the basics in pony care by grooming and helping to take care of your pony each day.  Make sure you bring a packed lunch and plenty of drinks and snacks to last throughout the day.

Games and Pizza is open to riders a J3 level and above.  Two hours of fun horse riding with gymkhana games, rounded off with pizza!

Clear Round. Open to J3 level and above. Get a clear round and receive a rosette in a choice of colours. Maximum of 2 rounds for riding school clients. For Liveries riding their own horses; unlimited rounds.

CEC Saddle Club Day. Saddle up! Not only will you be able to practice your horse management and care skills, but you will also have a riding lesson and a field hack. You will have the opportunity to be assessed on what you learnt and achieve a CESC Rosette or Certificate at your level. Minimum age for this event is 7 years, and you must be a member of the CEC Saddle Club.

ABRS (Association of British Riding Schools) Rosette Award Training normally takes place over 2 or 3 afternoons, dependent upon which subjects are being taught.  You'll receive training and then be assessed on the last day on what you have learnt.  You'll received a rosette and a certificate for every subject you pass and a badge. A 30 minute group riding lesson is included with the training.

Summer 3-Day Pony Rally.  This event is open to riders at J2 level and above. You will be allocated your own pony for the 3 days. You will learn the basics in pony care; grooming, feeding and helping to take care of your pony each day. You will receive riding instruction every day along with gymkhana games and fun activities.

Summer 3-Day Pony Camp with Sleepover and Bar-B-Q.  Open to clients riding at J3 level and above. A fun packed 3 days of riding activities; dressage, clear round, gymkhana games, as well as daily care of your horse or pony. BBQ and sleepover night is on the last day when you will camp in one of the fields under the supervision of our staff. You must be at least 10 years old on or before the day of the camp night to stay over.

Cross-Country Training Clinics.  Polish up your cross-country riding skills over our new jumps.  Riders will be divided into groups of similar ability and will practice their cross country skills for an hour under tuition of our BHS qualified instructors. Body protectors and skull caps are essential whilst riding the course. Open to J4 level riders and above; also open to liveries and external riders.

Own-A-Horse Adult sessions. As the title suggests, these events are purely for adults.  If you want to learn more about caring for horses, then this event is ideal for you.  You'll be allocated your horse which you will be taught how to groom and tack up correctly. You'll receive a 1 hour group riding lesson, and a 45 minute stable management lecture on subjects such as feeding, horse health, basic horse first aid.  You'll even get to muck out if you like - but that's not essential!

Unaffiliated Dressage Events. Our dressage events are normally held on Mondays either during the day in school holidays or after 5pm at other times throughout the year.  These events are normally attended by external riders with their own horses, however riding school horses can be hired for these events.  For more details about hiring one of our school horses for a dressage event please call reception on 01245 358116.  Please click here for details of the dressage dates for 2016.
